Thank you to everyone who made this year’s backpack events possible! With TWO distribution events – including our very first one in Orange County – we were able to give back in more ways than ever.
We couldn’t have done this without the help of our donors, partners and volunteers. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s support and for allowing us the opportunity to provide much-needed supplies to families in Orange County for the first time.

Donor Spotlight
Thank you to the Los Angeles Elite Lions Club for their contributions and support of our Westminster back-to-school backpack event! The support they showed us amounted to significant donations, supplies and volunteers – all of which were essential in driving our efforts in Orange County.
Partner Spotlight
Warren & Susie Loc from Westminster Grocery Outlet were instrumental in making our first Orange County event a success! They offered the parking lot of their store as event space, provided all of the groceries and helped pack our grocery distribution packages. Warren had a very hands-on approach and even introduced us to a second Grocery Outlet in Rialto, which provided all the toiletries for our Bloomington backpack event!
Board Member Spotlight
Matt Frechette was incredibly hands-on while we planned each of our back-to-school backpack events! Not only did he sit in on all of our strategic planning meetings and introduced us to essential partners, but Matt also assisted us by directing traffic and setting up the events.
Volunteer Spotlight
Megan Wei first joined us at the Easter event in March but has volunteered at every event since! Not only does she complete her assigned volunteer shift, but she typically spends the entire day helping us to make sure everything runs smoothly. She even brings her children to show them the importance of giving back!

Starting in September, our #GiveWithoutReservation initiative takes effect, and we will have some fun giveaways and announcements in the next couple of weeks! (*hint* there is new merch involved!)
2021 Board Retreat
Last weekend we hosted our annual Project Boon Board Retreat!
This meaningful event allows us to reset, recharge and gameplan for the rest of the year’s holiday events. We celebrated the turnover of our Board Chair and shared our appreciation for everything Joel Clelland brought to the organization these past two years. Although he will be working in a different capacity now, we are grateful for Joel’s hard work and look forward to a continued partnership.
We also want to share a special thank you to Max Freund of Praxsys Leadership for leading us in a fruitful training that is already helping us find ways to expand our reach.
